Types of motorcycle license

There are three types of motorcycle license, or three variations of the license A. So you can drive 125cc or full power. These are also age dependent. You must be at least 18 years old for each category. Below you will find the different types of motorcycle license explained.

A1

These are motorcycles with a cylinder capacity of up to 125 cc with a power of up to 11 kW or a motorized tricycle of up to 15 kW. Usually the students for the A1 driving license are between 18 and 20 years old. If you have an A1 driver’s license and you have now turned 20, you can proceed to the A2 driver’s license. You only have to take the AVD exam for this, with exercises in between such as driving away from the parking space or driving at walking pace.

A2 (CODE80)

If you are between 20 and 24 years old, you can opt for the A2 driving license. These are engines with a power of up to 35 kW where the cylinder capacity is not important. After you have been in possession of the A2 driving license for 2 years, you can go for the full A driving license. Here you only have to take the AVD exam with any assignments in between. If you go for “code 80”, you can transfer to the full A driving license after 2 years. Keep in mind that you can only drive an A2 motorcycle. You do take your exam on a complete motorcycle.

A

These are all other engines. With the A driving license you can drive any motorcycle and you have no restriction in engine size or power. For this category you must be at least 24 years old or 2 years in the possession of an A2 driving license.
